Hourly Wage: $21.60

About the Role:
We are searching for detailed-oriented and enthusiastic student to join our team for the 2026 summer. As the Communications Co-Op Student, reporting to the Manager, Strategic Initiatives, this role assists with content creation, social media management, and branding initiatives to ensure consistent messaging across platforms. The student contributes to public engagement activities and helps maintain visual and digital assets. By providing hands-on support to the Communications team, the position enhances outreach and strengthens community connections. 
 
Responsibilities: 
  • Contribute to the development and execution of annual campaigns, including the printed calendar and seasonal initiatives. 
  • Prepare draft communications for immediate and future use including campaign copy, statements, key messages, and news items.  
  • Assist with public engagement activities, such as surveys, polls, and community outreach efforts.   
  • Assist in creating templates and graphics aligned with the Town’s refreshed branding standards. 
  • Monitor social media activity and respond to inquiries under guidance from the Communications Specialist.
  • Capture high-quality photos of Town amenities, events, and community activities
  • Organize and maintain the Town’s photo bank for easy access and future use. 
  • Help implement the Town’s branding guidelines across communication materials. 
  • Prepare summary reports to evaluate engagement and effectiveness of communication strategies.   
  • Provide day-to-day assistance to the Communications Specialist during peak summer season.  
Education/Specialized Training/Knowledge: 
  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary degree or diploma in Communications, Public Relations or a related field. 
  • Good academic standing required.
  • Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Microsoft 365, Word) and thorough knowledge of office procedures and office equipment.  
  • Proficient working knowledge in social media platforms and basic content creation tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Familiarity with photography and basic graphic design is an asset.
  • Knowledge of municipal government operations and community engagement practices is considered an asset.
